Introduction
The question that seems to come to mind for workers is:
“Is Working in a Confined Space Hazardous?”
The Answer is…
Yes, many workers are injured and killed each year while working in confined spaces. It is estimated that 60% of the fatalities are related to the “would be rescuer”, someone going in to help a victim.
A Confined Space can be more hazardous than regular workplaces for many reasons. To effectively control the risks, you need to conduct a Confined Space Hazardous Assessment and a control program should be implemented for your workplace.
The Occupational Health and Safety Act has defined responsibilities for the Employer, Supervisor and the Worker.
Confined Space Entry is regulated under the regulations which detail specific requirements under the law.
In this module we will discuss:
1. What is a Confined Space?
2. What are the hazards associated with a Confined Space?
3. What can be done to prepare to enter a Confined Space?
4. How do we control hazards in a Confined Space?
5. How do we maintain indoor air quality and how are Fires and Explosions prevented?
6. Are there any other safety precautions needed?
