Introduction – Video Asbestos Awareness Training
This video is a well-rounded video giving you a great introduction to the types of asbestos, health effects and types of products Asbestos may be found in. This was developed in the UK, please disregard the mention of UK in the video. We will cover the Canadian Legislation and the Canadian Enforcement branch that enforces compliance with the Act and its regulations. Buildings Prior to 1990 and building products prior to 1990 may be asbestos containing. She references the year 2000. Here in Canada, we use 1990 and prior for the year that ACM were used.

Health Effects Of Asbestos
We will review Pages 23 to 26 of the Workbook Looking at the Health Effects of Asbestos Note: The chronic effects of asbestos exposure can take from 10 years or longer to show up as symptoms, or illness and disease in the body. It depends on the individual. Its not unheard of that even upwards to 30 years from when the individual was exposed.

Understanding where Asbestos can be located in a building or a product.
This section is important as you need to understand where asbestos can be located on a Construction Project, Renovation, residential, and Industrial. We will discuss locations and types of products to watch out for. Buildings or products prior to 1990 may be acm- asbestos containing material. So knowing the age of the building or the products is important. It is up to the homeowner or project owner to conduct an asbestos survey to determine what is acm. If no tests exists, then you should request one. Always err on the side of safety and where necessary assume that it is acm and take the necessary precautions to ensure that there is no exposure by breathing it in or transferring it onto your clothes. Follow Type 2 controls to ensure everyone is protected.

Controlling the exposure to Asbestos – PPE
We will look at Personal Protective Equipment such as Respirators and Protective clothing in this section. We will cover pages 37 to 42
